The talented singer Ishmeet has left us. I had seen and heard him on the Voice of India and more recently on another talent show. When I read the news in the papers it was a big shock. May his soul rest in peace.

Life Busy Lately.

Lately was not able to put anything on the blog. First of all I have moved over my laptop from XP to Solaris. So it was taking time to get familiar. Then the routine of downloading, and more importantly hardening the OS. Solaris has had a lots of improvements. But for those who are windows users, they need to get adapted to the "unix" culture of getting things done. By the way, Solaris is free and can be downloaded. So I see this now often on my laptop.

School Day Heroes

During my school days, in pre 1985, in the small town of Korba where we stayed away from city life. My heroes were still the old stars. We used to get to see old movies quite often.

The Jodhpur Dream

The fort is impressive as one enters jodhpur. I belong to this city, studied here, but somehow there is something hugely lacking here. The rush you can see everywhere is towards two things a. Handicrafts. b. Accommodation. Guest houses, hotels, and what not. This has led to secondary things like taxis, and shops selling everything from anklets to elephant carvings.

Is the spirit of Jodhpur going to stay alive?

I keep asking myself, what can be done, to bring this city to the notice of the world in either knowledge economy. How can tourism be made a cultural center rather than a money making industry.

Storage in those days

When I started working and little bit earlier also, floppies was something that impressed me. Data was stored on it. And not everyone used to carry a floppy. Imagine a PC (not XT), those days. I used to train students in DOS/LOTUS/WORDSTAR. The class used to wait in the labs in the front of the PC. When I gave them the floppies is only when the lab would start.

This is the 8 inch diskette, though never used on the PC. the PC's used the 5.25 inch diskette and later 3.5 inch diskettes shown below.

Modes of Transport : History

Luna TFR Plus. During my school days, my friend Pankaj had one. He was the first to graduate from a cycle to a Luna.

My friend Joseph had a Bajaj Chetak. That was the second vehicle that I drove.

Bajaj Super was the first vehicle my brother had purchased.

I had a friend we used to call him "kaka" (uncle). He had a Lamby and we used to ride 5 friends on it.

Later one of our friend bought a TVS 50. I remember we used to run and jump and sit on it.

This was my first motor cycle I rode. I have never purchased a two wheeler in my life. Hero Honda CD 100. My brother owns one.

Rajdoot. Any key could start it. Even a decent nail could start it. It was so simple those days.
