GMail still in beta.

Gmail Many have already written on this. You can go to Google and search. I am still surprised. They should have come out of beta quite some time back. The product is good, reliable, handy, simple but powerful features. Probably BETA means something else. Probably it means Better Email Technology Always.

The Virtual Box is great. I have moved over to Ubuntu now, with XP running under the virtual box. Even solaris is running under it. I have RH Linux and Old DOS running as well. I heard a large number of people have migrated too.

The freedom is here. For those in need of help in configuring Ubuntu, Virtual Box, can contact me. Drop me a message in the comment with your email and I will respond.

Goto Ubuntu and learn more.

Goto Virtual Box and learn more.

And come to open-source.

Yishun Celebration : Dance from India.

At Chong Pang yesterday (16/8/8) we had in the amphitheatre, a wonderful program. Among the other singers and dancers, there was this group from Delhi, (it looked from Brij, Mathura). They did a great show. The audience, a majority of which could not understand Hindi, but still were spell bound. A great performance. They are now in the Laxminarayan Temple, Little India, till Janmashthami.

Independence Day

Freedom comes with responsibilities. Comes with ownership. Comes with planning. Plans are made to be acted upon. More than making resolutions, and speeches, and sweets, Freedom comes with contemplation. A time to refresh, rejuvenate, and appreciate what is all there, and decide to make things better, makes things fundamentally better. India needs cleanliness. Freedom from dirt. Public places need this freedom from dirt.

Beautiful Song from ANGOOR

Sung by Madhuri Karmarkar

Music by RD Burman. One of my all time favourites

Roz Roz Dali Dali Lyrics

roj roj daalee daalee, kyaa likh jaaye
bhanwaraa, baawaraa, baawaraa
kaliyon ke naam koee, likhe paigaam koee
bhanwaraa, baawaraa, baawaraa

beete huye mausam kee, koee nishaanee hogee
dard puraanaa koee, yaad puraanee hogee
koee to daasataa, hogee naa

hogaa koee waadaa hogaa, waadaa nibhaataa hogaa
shaakhon pe likhakar, yaad dilaataa hogaa
yaad to aatee hee hogee naa

Ishmeet Singh - So soon

The talented singer Ishmeet has left us. I had seen and heard him on the Voice of India and more recently on another talent show. When I read the news in the papers it was a big shock. May his soul rest in peace.

Guru Poornima

Guru=Teacher
Poornima=Full Moon

We have plenty of teachers in our life. But some guide us on the path of spirituality. Guruji Hariharji Maharaj is one, who is been a guide for me.

Life Busy Lately.

Lately was not able to put anything on the blog. First of all I have moved over my laptop from XP to Solaris. So it was taking time to get familiar. Then the routine of downloading, and more importantly hardening the OS. Solaris has had a lots of improvements. But for those who are windows users, they need to get adapted to the "unix" culture of getting things done. By the way, Solaris is free and can be downloaded. So I see this now often on my laptop.

School Day Heroes

During my school days, in pre 1985, in the small town of Korba where we stayed away from city life. My heroes were still the old stars. We used to get to see old movies quite often.

The Jodhpur Dream

image
The fort is impressive as one enters jodhpur. I belong to this city, studied here, but somehow there is something hugely lacking here. The rush you can see everywhere is towards two things
a. Handicrafts.
b. Accommodation. Guest houses, hotels, and what not.
This has led to secondary things like taxis, and shops selling everything from anklets to elephant carvings.
Is the spirit of Jodhpur going to stay alive?
image
I keep asking myself, what can be done, to bring this city to the notice of the world in either knowledge economy. How can tourism be made a cultural center rather than a money making industry.
